Learning Communities

Lavers Hill and District Preschool

Lavers Hill and District Preschool is committed to maintaining a learning environment that is welcoming, positive and fun.

We believe in nurturing the whole child. We support and guide them into the next stage of learning and development with confidence in themselves as competent and capable individuals, as well as fostering excitement for continued learning. Lavers Hill and District Preschool was officially opened in 1996 on the traditional lands of the Gadubanud people as a sessional Kindergarten integrated into the Lavers Hill K-12 College. It is fully accredited by the Department of Education, and as such is able to provide Free Kindergarten to eligible children.

Lavers Hill K12 Our School

We facilitate an integrated three and four year old curriculum from 10am until 3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday that coincide with the Victorian school term dates. The Kindergarten is staffed by a Bachelor qualified teacher and a Certificate III qualified educator, low ratios of children to educators ensure a high quality learning environment and experiences. We embrace play-based methods alongside intentional teaching strategies to deliver the curriculum; this encourages the children to explore, discover, negotiate, take risks, create meaning and solve problems – all the important foundations for developing literacy, numeracy, and social skills in their later life. Children come together as a group throughout the day where they learn to listen to each other, share information, follow rules and partake in group activities.

The curriculum is planned based on the Early Years Learning Framework, research, concept development, teacher content, the interests and voices of the children. Through various methods of observation, the educators interpret and analyse children’s play, their interactions with others, and the physical environment to inform the curriculum and examine each child’s learning journey.

Lavers Hill and District Preschool has access to range of facilities within the College grounds including:

Weekly swimming lessons

Weekly music and drama classes

Large outdoor playground and oval

Bus Service*

* Families within the Kindergarten cohort have the option of using the school’s bus service to provide transportation of children from their local bus stops to the Lavers Hill Campus. Due to the age restriction set out within the Public Transport Victoria policy, this service is only available for children that are four years of age and above.

Lavers Hill K-12 College has an inbuilt transition program to support four year old children’s progression from Lavers Hill and District Preschool into their first year at Prep at Lavers Hill K-12 College. Children attending Lavers Hill and District Preschool will often have added opportunities to engage within the school environment, including in-house activities for events, excursions and incursions.

Lavers Hill and District Preschool is committed to the rights of all children to feel safe, and be safe at all times.
