Turning Point

Our College strives for excellence and has the aspirations to be world class in what and how it delivers education to young people and its community.

Its focus is on the individual young person and working with them to successfully complete Year 12 thus empowering them to achieve their career-life aspirations.

Our Turning Point Partnership Program will work with students who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from school, education and their aspirations for the future.

Students will be drawn from “disengaged/disengaging youth across the Otways” including our young Koori people and providing further supports for students already in mainstream education.

The initiative will run in parallel with our current education provision integrating when and as appropriate.

Turning Point

Ignition Point and Turning Point are programs that were created to address a growing need in the community for students who have not been attending mainstream school for a variety of reasons. They may struggle with bigger class sizes, have difficulty accessing the curriculum, need more individualised support, respond positively to fewer teachers and/or have specific wellbeing needs.

All of our staff are trained in the Berry Street Education Model and strive to deliver a program that is grounded in positive teacher/student relationships. We focus on the strengths of our students, and work hard to develop curriculum that best supports this.

The development of Individual Education and Learning plans is a key strategy for ensuring success for every student in the Ignition Point and Turning Point program. Students are supported by teachers, MIPS and wellbeing staff to develop a plan that identifies broad life and behaviour goals, as well as identifying clear learning goals and outcomes.

We see positive outcomes on a daily basis and many of our students not only re-connect with education, but attain certificates at TAFE, in VCAL/VCE and continue on to employment or further education. This is a huge success of our program.

To be eligible for the program, the young person needs to be referred by:

*A local service
*Parent/carer
